About Wiehle–Reston East Station
Wiehle–Reston East Metro station opened on July 26, 2014, as the western terminus of Silver Line Phase 1 — a milestone that brought Metrorail service to Reston for the first time. For eight years, until Phase 2 opened in November 2022, this was the last stop before a long bus ride to Dulles Airport. Today it serves as the boundary between the two construction phases.
The station is named for Wiehle Avenue, the major north-south road it sits on in the eastern Reston area. It features one of the largest Park & Ride garages on the Silver Line, making it a popular commuter hub for residents arriving from throughout Reston and the broader Dulles corridor. The multi-level garage is connected to the station via covered walkways.
The surrounding area includes mixed-use development, apartments, and office buildings that have grown up around the station since its 2014 opening. Reston Town Center — one stop to the west on Phase 2 — is a short distance away for dining and entertainment.
