Spring Hill Metro station opened on July 26, 2014, as part of the Silver Line Phase 1 extension into the Tysons Corner urban redevelopment area. The station is located near the intersection of Spring Hill Road and Route 7 (Leesburg Pike), serving the western portion of the Tysons Corner corridor.

The Tysons area is undergoing a major transformation from a car-dependent suburban edge city into a walkable, transit-oriented urban center. Spring Hill sits at the western end of the Tysons cluster, surrounded by office towers, corporate headquarters, residential high-rises, and hotels that have been built or converted around the Silver Line stations.

🏙 Tysons is one of the largest planned urban transformations in the United States — designed around four Silver Line stations. Spring Hill anchors the western end of this corridor, with Tysons Corner Center mall two stations to the east.

There is no dedicated Park & Ride garage at Spring Hill, consistent with Fairfax County's transit-oriented development plan for Tysons, which discourages car-centric station design. Rideshare services and Fairfax Connector buses serve the station for riders who cannot walk to the platform.
