McLean Metro station opened on July 26, 2014, as the easternmost station in the Tysons Corner cluster before the Silver Line crosses into Arlington County at East Falls Church. Despite its name, the station sits not in the residential community of McLean but rather in the eastern portion of the Tysons development corridor in Fairfax County — an area that has seen rapid transit-oriented development since 2014.

The station serves the portion of Tysons closest to the Capital One campus, a large number of residential high-rises, and the eastern Tysons office corridor along Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road). Tysons Galleria mall is a 10–15 minute walk from the McLean station exits, and Tysons Corner Center is just one stop west at the Tysons Corner station.

🏛 CIA headquarters in Langley is approximately 2–3 miles from McLean station, accessible by rideshare. There is no direct Metro access to the CIA campus itself, which has its own secure entrance along the George Washington Parkway.

McLean is one of the higher-ridership Tysons stations thanks to Capital One's corporate campus adjacent to the station and the dense residential development that has grown up in the immediate area. Fairfax Connector buses connect to residential neighborhoods in the surrounding communities.

    For Tysons Corner Center mall, it's just one stop west to the Tysons Corner station, which has a direct indoor connection to the mall — no weather exposure. Don't walk to the mall from McLean when you can ride one stop.

    For Tysons Galleria, McLean is a reasonable walk of 10–15 minutes along Tysons Boulevard or via a short rideshare. The Greensboro station, two stops west, is technically closer but the walk distances are similar from both.
