About East Falls Church Station

East Falls Church is a key transfer station on the DC Metro system, serving both the Orange Line (Vienna – New Carrollton) and the Silver Line (Ashburn/Dulles – Downtown Largo). Located just inside the Arlington County line on Lee Highway (US-29), the station sits at the point where the two lines diverge — Orange Line trains continue straight toward Ballston and downtown DC, while Silver Line trains split toward Tysons and Dulles Airport.

The station opened on June 7, 1986, as part of the original Orange Line extension to Vienna. It became a transfer station when WMATA opened the Silver Line Phase 1 to Tysons in 2014, transforming East Falls Church from a quiet neighborhood stop into a significant transit interchange.

East Falls Church is the best Metro connection point for reaching Tysons Corner Center — take the Silver Line two stops to Tysons station, just a short walk from the mall.

The surrounding neighborhood is a mix of single-family homes and small commercial areas. The station itself is above ground, at grade in the median of Interstate 66, giving riders views of the wooded corridor between Falls Church and Arlington. It is the last at-grade station for eastbound trains before the line enters the tunnels under Arlington.
