About Arlington Cemetery Station

Arlington Cemetery station is a small, single-line Blue Line station specifically designed to serve visitors to Arlington National Cemetery — America's most revered military burial ground, where over 400,000 veterans and their dependents are interred. The station's exit places visitors within steps of the cemetery's main visitor center and entrance gates.

The station opened in 1979, several years after the initial 1977 Blue Line opening, as a dedicated access point for this major national memorial site. It is located in Zone 1A — the same zone as DC itself — despite being in Virginia, reflecting its proximity to the Potomac River and to central DC attractions.

Arlington National Cemetery is open to the public (free admission) every day. The cemetery's Visitor Center, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, JFK gravesite, and changing of the guard ceremony are all accessible via a short walk or the cemetery's ANC Tours trolley from the main entrance near the station.

The Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) is approximately 0.5 miles north of the station along Marshall Drive. The Netherlands Carillon, a gift from the Dutch people, stands nearby with excellent views of Washington DC across the river.
